“The Plumb Line” Amos 7:7-8
This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. And the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Amos?”
“A plumb line,” I replied.
Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people, I will spare them no longer”.
Amos and the Crooked Wall”
Amos is a shepherd from Judah who is watching sheep when God calls him. God tells him to go to the neighboring Kingdom of Israel and tell its people that the Lord is going to punish them for their sins.”
Without any protest, Amos accepts the mission and heads to the City of Bethel.
Amos tells the people of Israel to “Prepare to meet thy God,” and tells them, “For you are like a crooked wall that must be destroyed before a new one can be built.”
When I was reading this passage of scripture, I thought of my blessed homeland St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I looked parallel to the current situation and what is God sayiny to modern day Amos. I am not writing to judge anyone but is Amos speaking to mynation as to others under similar seize.
“The Plumb Line”
Now hear a parable about two builders: Two men were each building a building, side by side. The first builder built his foundation and walls without checking it with a plumb line, to see if it was level. He looked at the foundation and walls and said, “It looks level to me, so that’s good enough for me”. The second builder built his foundation and walls, always checking with a plumb line to see if it was level.
When both builders were finished building their buildings, a building inspector came and inspected each building.
The inspector said to the first builder, “It looks good from the outside but let’s check it to see if it is level and straight. The inspector checked the foundation and walls and found that they were crooked.
The inspector then said to the builder, “ The foundations and walls are crooked. If a good storm comes then your building will fall down. Your building must be torn down, and then you must start over and build it right.”
The inspector then went over to the second builder and checked his foundation and walls.
The inspector told the second builder “It couldn’t have been any better than if I had built it myself. Go ahead and use the building.”
Prophetic Word from God ‘For know this’, says God, ‘As it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual. Know that the plumb line of the world says, that the crooked is straight, and the straight is crooked. Too many Christians are trying to use the worlds plumb line and standards in the church, and then say it looks right. But everything is wrong, when you build your life and ministry with the world’s standards. You need to use God’s plumb line, the Word of God, as your standard.’
‘For yea, I the Lord desire to do some major demolition work in your lives, and in others, only some minor work. Yea, in some churches and ministries, there are some organizational “structures” that don’t belong there and should be torn down, because they are hindering my progress’.
‘I want to uproot, tear down and destroy your worldly foundations, and then plant and build your life and ministry in God.’
‘I want to build, increase and expand. But to build more, a deeper foundation must be laid for a greater building. And that means we must first tear down the old building, dig up the old limited foundation and lay a new foundation for a ten story ministry instead of a one story ministry.’
‘If you will allow me to use my plumb line, the Word of God, I will build and plant your life and ministry bigger, better and stronger than before’, says the Lord.

What is a Plumb Line?
A plumb line was a cord with a lead weight used by builders to make sure that the walls were constructed straight up and down. A plumb Line was also used to test existing walls to see whether they had settled and tilted, needing to be torn down. A plumb line in the Bible is also used symbolically for God’s test of His people (Amos 7:7-8)
This is mymessage to us this morning, that we will line up with the word of God and save our Nation. We have become the people that forgotten our God and the message is to humbly ourselves and pray, seeking the face of Almighty God so He can redirect His wrath towards. I speak as a citizen of St. Vincent and the Grenadines but this message can be applied to all Caribbean states.
God’s blessings on all of us.
