I believe there is spiritual darkness (principalities and powers) that wars against believers as we read in Ephesians 6:10-13.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
There are many evil/demonic spirits that gravitate to and are under the direction of Jezebel, Leviathan and Wormwood.
Within Scripture, these named principalities and powers (evil spirits) wreak havoc on the human condition (the flesh and soul).
Think of demons as having “personalities” and you’ll recognize them better, but there are degrees of personality with “manifestations” and “strongholds” on/over a person.
They can erupt and hide, but they can grow stronger over time. However, in the Name of Jesus, they can be bound and cast out (Mark 16:17, Luke 10:17-19).
