Today is a joyous occasion around the world for millions who can afford to celebrate what is known as the “birth of Christ”. There are many opinions as to the day and date, but that is beside the point.
There are much more who acknowledge the season but it means nothing to them because of the threat of war and many who are hiding in the hills dying for basic needs. In the developed countries there is a readiness for the call to defend their countries should one man make the mistake to “push the nuclear button” which will trigger the third world war. This is imminent and we are to be ever watchful, for we do not know the minute or the hour.
At home in the Caribbean, we are faced with the rise in serious crimes like murders and rape. While everyone is asked to do their part the government needs to form a collation across the various communities to strategize to combat this sadistic behaviour in our societies.
The government doesn’t have all the answers and this is the best time to involve everyone. We need local consultations and from a regional approach from the BVI in the North to Guyana in the South. Despite the challenges we face, I hope you will have a very blessed season. God bless us all.
