Scripture: Proverbs 1:8-9
“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”
Wisdom is a precious gift passed from generation to generation through teachings, advice, and lived example. Our ancestors understood the value of attentive listening—not only to God but also to one another—knowing that wisdom shapes character and guides decisions.
Walking in the light of our ancestors means we open our hearts to the counsel they offer through words and lives. This wisdom is adorned like a garland, honouring us and enriching our journey when embraced with humility. It brings grace to our steps and protection in our choices.
In our fast-paced world, it is easy to overlook the quiet voice of wisdom or to disregard the lessons of those who have gone before. Yet, there is great power in pausing to hear, reflect, and apply what we learn from elders, Scripture, and experience.
Take time today to seek advice or reflect on an insight inherited from your family, faith community, or spiritual ancestors. Let their wisdom guide your path and strengthen your faith walk.
Challenge: Reach out to a trusted elder or mentor for guidance or reflect on a valuable lesson from your heritage.
Prayer:
Lord, open my ears and heart to the wisdom You have entrusted to me through my ancestors. Help me to listen well, learn humbly, and walk wisely in the path You set before me. May their teachings adorn my life with grace and truth. Amen.
