HONOUR

Honours+ – EDLAB

Sir Godfrey Gregg

Grand Commanding Officer

The figure who plays the greatest role in the Mystical Court ritual is King Solomon who is credited with writing the following words in the 22nd chapter of Proverbs. “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.”

These words from the wisest man who ever lived remind us of the importance of honour. It is better to be well-regarded than it is to be rich. And, honour is a virtue that both rich and poor men may possess because every person is equally made in the image of God. Honour is a virtue that must define every true member of The Mystical Court.

Synonyms for honour are integrity, uprightness, high principles, righteousness, rectitude, nobility, highmindedness, right-mindedness, and noble-mindedness. Honour has to do with our state of mind because our state of mind governs our thoughts and our actions. Members of The Mystical Court are charged to walk uprightly in our several stations before God and man.

In the course of any given day, we will have many opportunities to take action and in each of those cases, we may choose to do something that is either honourable or less than honourable.  As men of honour, we will choices that are right in our dealings with others even when making such a choice may not benefit us as ¡much when making such a choice may not benefit us as much materially as making such a different choice. I am reminded – of a Mystical Court member I know who owns a company in an industry where workers are paid notoriously low wages. This brother chooses to pay his employees more than his competitors pay their employees because he believes it to be the right and honourable decision to pay his workers enough money so that they can afford to live on their salaries. That choice may result in our brother’s company is less profitable, but that choice also results in his employees holding him in high esteem.

Our Brother truly understands the message of our most excellent Grand Master King Solomon “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
