Dear friends, readers, brothers and sisters
Today, we gather to commemorate Good Friday, a day that marks the crucifixion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a day of somber reflection, a day to remember the great sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf.
As we reflect on the events of that fateful day, let us turn to Scripture to guide us. In Isaiah 53:3-5, we read:
“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by whose wounds we are healed.”
This passage reminds us of Jesus’ suffering and the reason for His sacrifice. He bore the weight of our sin, taking Himself the punishment we deserved. And through His wounds, we are healed.
As we contemplate the cross, let us remember the words of Jesus in John 15:13:
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Jesus’ love for us is a love that knows no bounds, that led Him to give His life for ours. And as we gaze upon the cross, may we be reminded of the depth of that love and sacrifice He made for us.
May this Good Friday be a day of reflection, repentance, and gratitude for the gift of salvation that Jesus has given us. May we be drawn closer to Him, and filled with a sense of awe and wonder at the great love that He has shown us.
