Sir Godfrey Gregg
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
If you couldn’t see, you’d use other senses to compensate. You’d feel for obstacles, listen for echoes, or smell for the familiar or dangerous. You learn to trust different senses when they’re the only way to engage in life.
Faith is the primary sense of Your spiritual life, but when you come to new life in Christ, Your sight is less useful in determining where you go. Faith can be difficult sense to understand.
You’ll try to assign faith to secondary roles in your journey. You might attempt to make faith a feeling, a statement (” have faith”), or a physical place of union with Christians (church). While faith can interact with emotion, conversation, and partnership with other followers, it trusts in the One who leads, is certain of the future He’s prepared, and is confident in God’s plan even when you can’t see beyond your next step (Psalm 119:105).
Faith assures you that each next step with God is infinitely better than any steps you take on your own. It’s not easy to trust what you can’t see, but faith isn’t just walking forward; it’s walking with God. Each new step leads closer to home.
