DAY FOURTEEN

Read the Directions

Sir Godfrey Gregg

Read

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.   Psalm 119:105

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall. Matthew 7:24-27

Reflect

Whenever you purchase an item that needs to be assembled you must first read the instructions. Many times we try to assembly the product without reading the instructions. Then we find ourselves in a situation where we have to look for the instructions. Most men will not read the instructions because they think they know it all

You have to read the instructions first brethren.  “Read the entire instruction book before beginning construction”. This is a novel idea; what could it hurt? If you read the instructions first there will be no problems putting your project together, and you will save lot of time.

I suggest that we often follow this pattern with life issues. We try to do things our way, thinking that we’ve got this figured out. Then when disaster comes, when the outcome is unexpected, we go to God and say, “What should I do?” He tells us to read the directions. God’s Word, the Bible, is rich in instructions to follow and principles to apply if we only choose to do so.

There are really two sides to this coin. One side is looking for those instructions that might apply to the challenges you face today. God provides those. On the other side, we are challenged to study ahead. As you read the Bible, look for principles that might apply to future situations you might face. Make a note in the margin; commit yourself today to follow instructions when the time comes. It will guard you from pitfalls. Remember what the Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.”

Respond
